The Canton Golden Bears defeated the Hermon-Dekalb Demons by a final score of 57-21 in the Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium on Monday. The Bears came out ready to play, putting on the press early in their first game of the season. The Demons kept it close, only down 10 after the first quarter.
The Bears then turned it on in the next three quarters putting the game out of reach for the Demons. Jake Backus led the charge for the bears with nine points. Backus also had two steals that resulted in break-away layups. Freshman starting point guard Ryan Jones was solid on both ends of the court tonight by dishing it out to teammates all around the arc and having a vocal presence on defense. Twelve of the 13 players on the Bears scored Monday night with six players notching five or more points.
The Bears look to continue the momentum as they travel to Potsdam to take on the Sandstoners.
