The Canton Varsity Soccer teams came away with a pair of W’s on Saturday as they squared off with their Route 11 rival, the Potsdam Sandstoners. The boys stayed at the top of the Central Division by improving their record to 5-0 after cruising past the Sandstoners by the score of 4-0 on the turf in Potsdam. Colin Taylor “Park” scored twice in the game and Chris “Corn” Schuckers supplied an insurance goal for the Bears. Potsdam scored an Own Goal for the final goal of the game. The Golden Bears defense was once again solid. The group of Caleb “Derks” Bentley-Hicks, Sam Photenhauer, Pete Coakley and Trey Bessette helped goalie Parker Hunt to another shutout. Hunt only needed one save in the game.
Game Note: You usually see Trey Bessette, Dan “Demo” Mahoney, Chris Downs and Hayden Todd on the Football field in the fall. With the season being moved to to March the boys have taken advantage and are now playing on the Soccer team.

The Canton girls faced off with the Sandstoners on a sloppy Roger Dusharm field on Saturday morning. The two teams coached by a pair of veterans Joe Stark and Greg Kiah have had some great battles over the years. Saturday was no exception with the Bears(4-1)coming out on top by the score of 2-0. With the win Canton remains one game behind the Gouverneur Wildcats in the Central league standings. Both teams struggled early with the conditions but Canton’s Amelia “Thorn” Rodee scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Sydnee “Kid” Francis. In the second half Canton scored an insurance goal when Sydnee Francis hit the back of the net on a slick pass from senior Esther “Stir Fry” Shipman. Bree “Brownie” Rogers had 10 saves in the game.

Game Note: Art “Quack” Quackenbush and AD Bill Porter once again patrolled the sidelines as ball boys for the Bears. Maybe not the quickest in the section but keeping everyone safe. The Safety Committee thanks you!
