The Lady Bears fell in overtime 2-1 against the Alexandria Bay Lady Islanders Monday night at the Canton Pavilion.
The game was tight with the Bears out-shooting their opponents 32-15. Cate DeCouteau scored the opening goal of the game at 13:16 of the first period, getting an assist from her younger sister Lucy. The score remained 1-0 through the second period, with the Bears putting on heavy offensive pressure.
The Lady Islanders scored at 1:36 of the third period with an odd angle shot from the side of the net that found its way into the goal. The score remained tied through third period, despite both teams having excellent scoring chances. As the game moved to overtime, the Bears were putting the pressure on. An overtime penalty against the Islanders put the Bears a man up but it was short lived as Cate DeCoteau was whistled for a penalty halfway through the power play. The Islanders scored at 4:05 of the overtime on a shot from the high slot that got by goalie Mackenzie Wiggins, who was screened on the shot.
The Lady Bears fall to 0-4 in league play and travel to Oswego on Friday for a non-league game at 5 p.m.
