On Oct. 18 the Bears Cross Country teams had their final home meet and Senior Night. The Bears celebrated their senior team members Grace McDonough, Rori McCarthy, Lynzie Lawton, Wyatt Newman, and Jayce Collins. The Girls’ team took the top four places against Tupper Lake, Brushton-Moira, and Franklin Academy, making them impossible to catch. The boys team placed second after Franklin Academy against the same teams.

In the girls race the Golden Bears put five runners in the top ten. Canton freshman Bennett Schmitt ran to another first place finish, barely missed a sub-21 with a time of 21:01.06. The next three runners to cross the line were senior Grace McDonough (21:32.67), sophomore Johanna Tupper (22:32.62), and sophomore Haley Burnett (23:35.03), all from Canton. Olivia Bobbie from Brushton took fifth (23:39.41), and senior Rori McCarthy from Canton took ninth with a time of 24:56.39. The final scores saw Canton beat Brushton-Moira 17-44 and Malone 17-41. Due to lack of runners Tupper Lake was unable to score.
For the boys, Canton put one runner in the top five and four runners in the top ten. Franklin Academy took first and second place, with senior Watson Chodat gapping the entire field with a 17:30.63, followed by his teammate junior Dylan Keating (19:17.86). Brushton-Moira eighth-grader Ethan Reome took third (19:20.94), followed by Canton sophomore Lucas Watts (19:53.06) and Brushton-Moira senior Luke Chapman (19:56.19). Canton’s next finishers were sophomores Kaden Worthley (20:06.06) who placed sixth, and Rylan Lee-Powell (20:28.65) who placed eighth. Canton sophomore Daniel Armendariz-Huang (20:38.09) paced junior Nick Moquin to tenth place and a time of 20:37.75. The final scores saw the Golden Bears beat Brushton 26-29 and narrowly lose to Franklin Academy 27-28.
