It is hard to believe but the chill in the air and the ever growing absence of leaves from the trees tells us that winter sports are just about to get underway. All Varsity and JV Sports, as well as modified wrestling, begin on Monday, November 14th. All other modified sports will begin the following Monday, November 21st. Specific practice times and locations can be found at the Sports Calendars tab at the athletics department website. For those who have not yet signed up, you may still do so at the Canton Central Athletics “Sports Sign-Ups” registration site. Begin the process by clicking on the icon in the middle of the page, selecting the Canton Central or Merger Student tab, and then filling in the prompts as they occur.
First time users will need to take some time as you input your student’s information. Returning users may simply check the box or boxes regarding the specific sport and level which your athlete is interested in and re-signing electronically the student code of conduct. Remember that grades 7 and 8 are modified, 9 and 10 are JV and 11th and 12th grades are Varsity. Coaches will of course elevate student-athletes when appropriate.
Sport offerings for the winter include the following;
Basketball for Boys and Girls (Modified, JV and Varsity)
Ice Hockey for Boys and Girls (Varsity)
Indoor Track and Field (for Boys and Girls (Modified and Varsity)
Swimming for Boys (Modified and Varsity- Girls swim during the fall season)
Wrestling for Boys (Modified and Varsity)
Girls wishing to wrestle may do so via the “mixed competition” process. Please reach out to Bill Porter in the athletics office for details or for questions regarding the winter sports season.
