The Canton Varsity Baseball team battled through a two-run deficit in the fifth inning to beat Carthage 14-3.
The Bears scored one in the first when Lane Rayburn singled and scored Scott Ahlfeld. The game remained at the score 1-0 as the field continued to get wet from rain. Canton played a solid defensive game until the fifth inning, when two errors and a couple of hits allowed Carthage to score three runs. Eric Zuhlsdorf pitched all five innings for the Bears, allowing two hits and seven walks, striking out seven.
Canton’s offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth, when Carthage had a pitching change. Everybody in the game scored in fifth inning for the Bears. Notably, Ahlfeld had two doubles, two RBIs, and three runs, Sam Roiger went 2/4 with two runs, two RBI; Gavin Thompson went 1/1, two runs; Lane Rayburn went 1/3, one run, two RBI.
Canton takes the next week off for spring break, and will return Tuesday, April 26, to face off against the Potsdam Sandstoners.
