On Thursday the Canton boys JV team out scored the Potsdam Sandstoners by a score of 6-1 for their last game of the season. The Bears lost 3 of their top players, Ethan Francy, Jacob Rosales, and Ryan Jones who all moved up to the varsity team for a play off run but still managed to keep ball possession and pull off a win.
The first goal for the Bears came early in the 1st quarter at just over 2 minutes into the game. Jonney Mclear took a shot from just outside the 18-yard line to put it in the net. Jonney would end up with 3 more goals for a total of 4 on the night. Other people to score were Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle and Lucas Watts. The Sandstoners only goal came in the 2nd half on a direct kick. Jackson Ames had 5 saves on the night and after he was pulled from the net, he was replaced by Caleb Harttman who had 7 saves.
The Bears finished the season with a record of 11-1 non-league and 10-0 in section 10. “This was a great year for the Bears JV Soccer team. We had an outstanding group of young men that have a very bright athletic career ahead of them. It was an honor to stand on the sideline and watch them play this fall. Legendary Golden Bears JV Soccer coaches Wayne Willette & the late Jerry Smilgan would love this team.” stated head coach Mike Wentworth.
