JV Spikers Sweep the Wildcats

On Tuesday in a doubleheader against the Gouverneur Wildcats, the Canton Bears JV volleyball team won all six sets. The Bears played well throughout the whole night, not losing a set.

In the first set, the Bears got off to a rocky start but came back with strong serving from Josie Gabriel and finished with many points served from Katie Metcalf. The second set brought many kills from Gabriel and 2 from Emma Logan. After winning the first two sets, and the game the Bears looked to continue winning the third set and sweeping the match.

The first game was led by Gabriel with 5 kills, 1 ace, and 6 total points served. Laurel Whittier with 8 assists, 3 aces, and 4 total points served. Metcalf had 19 total points served including 5 aces. Emma Logan had 2 aces and 6 points served along with 2 kills.

The second game again got off to a slow start as some people were feeling cold coming off the bench. The Bears fought through that to win the first set. In the second set of the game and fifth set of the night everyone was starting to feel tired but the Bears didn’t let that get to them. They continued to battle and win the second set. Although they had won the games Canton did not let up. They had one final set of the night and they wanted to continue their winning streak. Thanks to strong serving by Zoey Mattice the Bears won their last set of the game making it a perfect 6-0 night.

Stat leaders from the second game were Metcalf with 5 kills along with 5 aces and 12 total points served. Gabriel had 7 aces with 15 total points served. Mattice also had 14 total points served with half being aces.
