The Canton Lady Bears took on the Massena Red Raiders in Massena on Thursday afternoon. The Bears struggled to adapt to the early season transition from a grass field to the fast paced turf. For the majority of the first half the Raiders controlled the possession of play.
The Bears struggled with communication and one touching the middle of the field. In the first half the Bears goalkeeper Bree Rodgers had many amazing saves but unfortunately a scramble in front of the net with a minute remaining in the half resulted in a shot just out of her reach. It would stand as the only goal of the game. The Raiders took a 1-0 into halftime.
In the second half the Lady Bears came out with a much higher level of intensity and fought hard for the remainder of the game. Juniors Gab Shuckers, Megan Martin and Lindsey Filiatrault dominated the defensive end communicating with each other.
Emily Estabrooks worked hard on both sides of the ball which resulted in several offensive opportunities but unfortunately the Bears were unable to put one in the net. With seniors Maddie Hoy and Quinn Woodward working together to control the center of the field, the Bears made the improvements they needed in the second half.
The Lady Bears look to bounce back as they play in Salmon River vs the Shamrocks at 4:30 next Tuesday.
