The Canton Boys Varsity Soccer team lost their second straight game to Beekmantown, 2-1.
The Bears looked to rebound from their first game, which they lost 5-0. Although the Bears lost both games, every half the Bears showed improvement. Accustomed to playing defense after the first game, the Bears started the game playing mostly defense. Beekmantown was held off until around the 20 minute mark of the first half where a high shot flew just out of reach of netminder Hayden Todd. Todd played very well for his first start in net, allowing only 2 goals on 19 shots. The Bears defense kept the ball out of the net on corners, with Beekmantown not being able to find the net on 7 attempts.
The second goal for Beekmantown came a few minutes later when two Canton defenders collided and the ball was kicked out of the reach of Todd. The Bears battled back and a free kick by Jack Kerrigan led to Kaden Baxter scoring Canton’s first regular season goal. The first half concluded with the score 2-1 in favor of Beekmantown.
Despite their best efforts, the Bears could not find a second goal. Facing the dazzling sun in the second half, the Bears shut out Beekmantown and this gave them their first scoreless half of the 2021 campaign. Canton returns to Section X to play against Hermon-Dekalb on Tuesday.
