The Canton boys JV Soccer team opened up the season on Thursday night by traveling to Ogdensburg to play the Potsdam Sandstoners in the first round of the Gerard Cring Memorial Soccer Tournament. The Bears opened up the first of 7 total goals on the evening by scoring early in the first half on a goal from Jude Parker, with Jonney Mclear earning the assist. Ethan Francey and Ryan Jones also punched in goals in the first half assisted by Jacob Rosalas and Saverio Segi. The score was 3-0 at the half and the second half the Bear Cubs seemed to wear down the Sandstoners by running all 21 players on the field in two shifts.
The second half saw Canton score four more goals, another by Parker and one each from Sergi, Jonney Mclear, and younger brother Josh Mclear. Jackson Ames finished the game with a shutout and 3 saves.
“We have good numbers on the team this year and today we had a good opportunity to see a lot of the younger players see good minutes which is going to help us later on in the season. We played pretty good for the first time out but we still need to do a better with our spacing and keeping the ball on the ground.” stated head coach Mike Wentworth
The Bears will head back to Ogdensburg on Friday to play either OFA or Carthage in the Championship game. The game is scheduled for 6:00pm
