The Canton Boys Varsity Soccer team opened their season Thursday afternoon against Plattsburgh, losing 5-0.

The Bears faced stiff competition and were welcomed to a beautiful Chazy grass field by a swift attack by the Plattsburgh offense to put the Bears down one goal 30 seconds into the game. Three minutes later another Plattsburgh goal found its way to the back of the net, making the score 2-0 with 37 minutes left to play in the first half.

From here possession was about 80-20 Plattsburgh with another goal scored by Plattsburgh before halftime. Plattsburgh started with the ball in the second half and promptly scored again without the ball ever striking a Canton foot. After this, the game calmed down in goals. Canton managed to keep the ball out of the net and even on the other half for some of the second half. Stopper and left fullback Kaden Baxter caused a number of turnovers by putting pressure on the Plattsburgh strikers. Jack Kerrigan kept Canton solid in the back at sweeper and prevented many rushes before they started. Cade Cheezum played well in net, stopping 18 out of 23 shots.

The Bears only shot came from Scotty Ahlfeld off a free kick from Kerrigan.

The Bears play again Saturday at 5 in Chazy, and will look to build on their second half from Thursday in the second game in Chazy.
