Canton 40 Heuvelton 29 Sunday afternoon the Canton Girls JV Basketball team hosted the Heuvelton Bulldogs for a matinee. Heuvelton led by Coach Austin Weakfall came out strong in the first quarter and jumped on the young Bears and outscored them 9-6 early. After the slow start, Canton started to spread the floor on offense and mix in a little full court pressure to try to get things jump started. The changes seem to help as they went on to win the game 40-29 to push their record to 4-0 in the shortened season.
Leading the Bears in the scoring column was eighth grader Vivian Coburn with twelve points. Calie Klassen and Etta Coburn followed up with 8 points and Lindsey Filiatrault had six points to help in the winning cause. Leading the Bulldogs was Laken Martin who chipped in 9 points for the Dogs. Canton will be back in action again on Monday night as they will face off with their Route 11 rival, the Potsdam Sandstoners. Game time is scheduled for 5:30.
