JV Girls Hoopers Down Demons

The Canton JV girls travel to Hermon DeKalb to play in their brand new gymnasium. The game was very fast and physical with both teams playing with a lot of intensity for an early season match up. The game produced a dramatic finish with Canton gaining a 34-33 win on the strength of a Calie Klassen’s second 3-pointer of the fourth quarter with 10 seconds to play. Klassen finished with 12 points and Hadley Alquire and Courtney Peters each netted eight.

Natalie Appel buried four 3s leading H-D (1-1) with 12 points. Aaliyah O’Donnell finished with eight and Jayla O’Donnell added six. “It was great to see the both teams on the floor actually playing in a game. If you are not around the school every day you don’t realize the impact of bringing back sports has done for these kids. As far as the game, you could tell that we have only been in the gym for eight days but the potential is there. This group of girls, led by Etta & Vivian Coburn are going to get after it on the defensive end. We may not blow out any bulbs on the scoreboard but these girls are going to make other teams work to get their points” stated head coach Mike Wentworth. The junior bears will be back in action for round two of the Bears vs the Demons on Friday night in Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium. Game time 5:30. You can catch all the action on the NFHS network.
