The Canton boys JV Soccer team hosted Massena on Wednesday night on a wet and sloppy Roger Dusharm field in Canton. The junior Bears were looking to improve on their 2-0 season opener at Malone on Saturday.

The young Bears jumped on the Raiders early in the first half when Josh “Cub” Aldous scored his first of two goals on a scrum in front of the net. Ethan Francey scored the next goal on a shot from the right wing that sailed over the goalie’s head into the upper left corner to make it 2-0. Fellow freshman Ryan “RJ” Jones and Jonney McLear joined Francey in the scoring column in the first half with their first goals of the season.
Canton led 4-1 going into the half and in the second half they continued to control the ball on the offensive end of the field. Vincent “Twig” Nelson Fuse scored two goals and Noah Curry also scored to make the final score 8-1. Cade Chezum had two saves.
“We definitely came to play tonight,” Head Coach Mike Wentworth said. “This is obviously a very athletic group of boys and to make it even better they are a competitive group that does not like to lose. We made a little switch in our rotation today that created a lot more scoring opportunities.”
The Golden Bears will be in action again on Friday as they will make the short trip down route 11 to face off against the Sandstoners. Game time 4 p.m.
