On Wednesday night, the Canton girls varsity basketball team beat Potsdam on the Road. The 63-42 win put the team at 14-0 in league play and ended their regular season. Senior Katie Chisholm also scored her 1,000th point during this contest, an incredible accomplishment.
The game was close throughout the first half and Canton struggled to make outside shots, a theme this season. In the second half the golden bears were able to hit shots and open the lead to secure an undefeated the season. The game was a chance for the Bears to work on rotations and they hope to improve their precision in playoffs. The Bears felt their work on both ends of the floor was simply sloppy.
Chisholm led the bears in scoring, she had 17 points, Sarah Sieminski put up 14, and Maddie Hoy added 13. Rounding out the scoring was Lexi Huiatt with six, Hailee Duvall with five, and Jillian DiSalvo and Gretchen Warner each scoring four.
The Golden Bears are very pleased with their undefeated showing in the league this season and are excited to begin playoffs with the first seed. The team will play again next Friday, the 21, at home at 6 P.M. They will face either Salmon River or Potsdam.
