On senior night, the Canton girls varsity basketball team beat Ogdensburg 45-42. The game was back and forth while Canton came out to an early deficit and struggled to score. The first half was a tale of the Bears inability to score and lackadaisical defense. At the half, Canton clung to a 17-15 lead.

The third quarter was when the Bears found a rhythm and were able to score. Many transition layups and crafty offensive moves led the Bears to score 14 in the third quarter alone. Along with the offense came intimidating defense, and Canton put on the full court press and caused OFA to make errors. The fourth quarter saw the Golden Bears clinging to a small lead.

With many mistakes on both ends of the floor, the Bears let the Blue Devils bring the game back to a tie. With only seconds left in the game, Canton was able to make free throws to regain the lead. On a missed free throw, Emily Wentworth battled for the offensive rebound and gain possession to end the game with a Bears win.

With only one three pointer from Kelsea Whittier, the Bears struggled to shoot from the outside and had to adjust to battle under the net. With the post-season in the near future, Canton looks to tighten up their offense and decrease turnovers. Many moments of defense looked optimistic and the Bears need to work on expanding this intense and intimidating defense throughout a contest.

Scoring for Canton, Katie Chisholm and Sarah Sieminski each had nine points. Lexi Huiatt scored seven points, Maddie Hoy added six, and Wentworth put up five. The Bears are happy with their 13-0 league record and hope to round out an undefeated league season in Potsdam on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Go Bears!
