The Canton girls JV basketball team played their last home game on Monday night at a packed “Hawaiian Themed” Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium. The young Bears continued their strong late season play and held OFA to just 16 points in the game, finishing with a 51-16 victory. The win pushes Canton’s record to 14-5 on the season with one game to play.
“With the snow days on Thursday and Friday and not being able to use the gym this past weekend because of a youth basketball tournament, I was not sure how the girls would play but they played well despite the lack of court time,” Coach Mine Wentworth remarked
The Bears had 10 different girls score in a very balanced effort. Eighth grader Ava Hoy led all scorers with 18 points. Also scoring were Camryn Sipher and Lindsey Filiatrault (six points), Mattie Porter (five points) Courtney Peters and Hadley Alguire (four points), Amelia Rodee (three points) Phoebe Jaskowski (two points) and Alyssa Jacob (one point).
The Bear Cubs will hit the road one last time as they will travel down Rt. 11 to play rival Potsdam on Wednesday night. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
