The Canton Golden Bears were beaten 3-2 by the Flyers. The Bears wore purple in support of pancreatic cancer for warmups. Canton showed signs of promise in the first period, leading 2-1 at the end. The Flyers got up early beating a Canton defenseman and beating the Canton netminder. Canton’s two goals came from Trey Bessette and Rhett Palmer, who both scored on rushes by beating the defensemen out wide and faking out the goalie. Palmer picked up on an assist on Bessette’s goal, while Justin Brabant got a helper on Palmer’s goal. Canton controlled play for the majority of the first period, but were outshot 9-5.
Canton faltered in the second period, and the Flyers capitalized on the Canton miscues. The Bears couldn’t keep the puck in the offensive zone and were dominated in time of possession. This offensive pressure led to defensive zone breakdowns, and two goals in the net for Norwood-Norfolk. Canton recovered from their blunders and ended the period well.
The final frame saw no change in score. Although multiple opportunities presented themselves, no goals were yielded from the Canton efforts. With a minute left Canton’s Hayden Todd was pulled, who had 27 saves on 30 shots and kept Canton hopes alive in the game. Even with an extra man, the Bears could not find the net and lost the game.
Join us next Friday night when the Bears take on the Red Raiders at the Canton Pavilion.
