Canton JV Girls Basketball Rallies for Win

On Wednesday, the Canton Bears girls JV basketball team made to the trip to Brasher Falls to face the St Lawrence Central Larries.  The young Larries came out motivated to avenge a one-point loss in December to Canton when Amelia Rodee hit two foul shots for the win at the end of the game.

The Larries outscored the Bears in the first three quarters 32-29 but in the fourth quarter Canton started pressing on defense and worked hard to get to the basket.  Canton ended up out scoring St.Lawrence Central 15-6 in the last frame to come away with the 44-38 victory.  With the win it pushes the junior Bears record to 8-4 on the season.

“This game was almost the exact opposite of our Massena game on Monday night.  Today we were the ones who trailed the entire game but had a nice fourth quarter to get the “W”.  Today I saw some outstanding leadership on the floor from our sophomores and that was key in a game like that.  Mattie Porter and Camryn Sipher did a nice job adjusting to the constant pressure applied by SLC.  Tonight was also the first game all year that we had our entire team healthy.  Hadley Alguire finally made it off the Injured List and played for us tonight,” Coach Mike Wentworth commented.

Sophomores Camryn Sipher and Amelia Rodee led the team in scoring tonight with 13 points followed up by Ava Hoy who battled a double team most of the night for eight points.  Also filling up columns in the scorebook were Mattie Porter (four points), Lindsey Filiatrault (three points), Hadley Alguire (two points), Alyssa Jacob (one point).

The Bears will be hitting the road again this weekend as they travel to Syracuse to play in a tournament at Bishop Grimes.
