The Canton girl’s modified basketball team split with Massena on Monday night in Massena.  The seventh graders lost 31-16, while the eighth graders cruised to a 29-10 win.

The eighth-grade game was a defensive gem for the Bears.  The Red Raiders scored six points in the first two minutes of the opening quarter.  Canton then held Massena scoreless until midway through the fourth quarter and the Red Raiders only scored four more points.  Stella Shipman came up with numerous steals which she converted into fast break layups, en route to scoring a game-high 12 points.  Josie Gabriel netted 11 points and dominated the glass at both ends.  Laurel Whittier added four points, and Maysa Moumen chipped in with two.

Winnie Downs led the seventh graders with eight points.  Sara Aldous and Haley Burnett dropped in four points apiece.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday when they hit the road to play at St. Lawrence Central.
