On Thursday, the steadily improving Canton JV girls basketball team traveled to Ogdensburg to face the Blue Devils in a Central League matchup.
The young Bears started the game out strong and put up 20 points in the first quarter to take a 20-2 advantage after the first frame and went on to a 56-36 win.
“We jumped out from the get go tonight and played very well on both sides of the ball. We are heading into a tough part of our schedule the next four or five games so this was a nice one to tune up for next week,” Coach Mike Wentworth remarked.
Canton was led in scoring by eighth grader Ava Hoy who dropped in 18 points and 14 rebounds and the other half of the “AA Demolition Crew”, sophomore Amelia Rodee who put up 14 points and 15 rebounds. Rounding the scoring on the night was Lindsey Filiatrault (12 points), Courtney Peters (nine points), Olivia Sero (two points) and Wyatt Newman (one point).
The Bears next game will be Monday night as they travel to Massena to see if they can avenge a 15-point loss earlier in the year to the Raiders. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
