JV Girls Basketball Tops Norwood-Norfolk

The Canton Girls JV Basketball Team traveled to Norwood-Norfolk on Friday afternoon to play in their fifth game over the long Christmas break.

The young Bears started out slow with their big eighth grader Ava Hoy on the bench in the first quarter with a small equipment malfunction. The Cubs ended the first quarter with an 11-4 advantage but exploded for 18 in the second as Hoy scored six of her 10 points to lead Canton to a 29-8 halftime advantage.

The game ended in a 48-38 win for Canton and pushes their season record to 6-3.

“Today was a nice game for a lot of different girls and it was a great opportunity to play a lot of different combinations. Camryn Sipher shot the ball very well and Wyatt Newman played a great game after spending Christmas in the Florida sun,” Coach Mike Wentworth said.

Sipher lead the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Hoy with 10 points, 8 rebounds.  Also putting points up on the board were Lindsey Filiatrault, Courtney Peters and Amelia Rodee all with five points.

The Bears will be in action again on Monday at Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium against the Potsdam Sandstoners.  Game time 5:30 p.m.
