The annual trip to St. Albans, Vt. brought two games against top level competition this year for the Canton Bears boys varsity hockey team.
On Friday night, the Bears faced off against a strong Bellows Free Academy team, and BFA came to play. The Bears effort was there, and they kept it tight early but in the end BFA skated away with a commanding 5-0 victory. Despite the loss, freshman goaltender Cade Chezum stayed strong between the pipes with a solid performance.
On Saturday, an experienced Essex team again led to trouble for the Bears. Essex seemed to have relentless offensive pressure that the Bears could not crack. This game was also close for much of the first period, but in the end Essex skated away with a 5-0 win.
The tournament may have resulted in two losses, but the team remains optimistic. It is viewed as a learning experience from which the Bears look to build on throughout their season.
Canton looks to build on their undefeated league record as they take on Potsdam in the Route 11 rivalry this Saturday Dec. 28 at 2:30 p.m. at the Canton Pavilion.
