Varsity Girls Basketball moves up to 4-0

In their first road game of the season, the Canton varsity girls basketball team defeated the Gouverneur Wildcats 55-48 on Monday. Canton played relentless defense in the first half to gain an early advantage. The team used many different defensive sets and recorded countless steals. These steals turned into fast-break points, which accounted for the majority of the team’s half time score of 25-11.

After a strong first half, the team came out of the break looking lethargic on defense and frantic on offense. The Wildcats were on the attack and Canton could not stop them. The team also found themselves in trouble with fouls throughout the fourth quarter. Despite the adversity, Canton prevailed. Scoring for the Bears was led by Katie Chisholm and Sarah Sieminski, who had 20 and 19 points respectively. Lexi Huiatt netted seven for Canton and Gretchen Warner added five.

Canton looks to put together four strong quarters in their upcoming games. The first four games have brought wins for the team however, they hope to play to their full potential as the season progresses. Canton hopes to work hard in practice the next two days and come out strong in their home game Friday night versus St. Lawrence Central. Tip is 8:30 p.m. Go Bears!
