The JV girlsbBasketball team took the trip south down Route 11 to face off with the undefeated Gouverneur Wildcats. The Cats took round one of the series and dominated the Bears by the score of 58-31.
Gouveneur started out strong with an 11-5 first quarter advantage and never looked back shooting the lights out from behind the arc and running the floor making numerous transition lay-ups.
“We did some good things tonight to build on. We just need to trust the process and know that we are going to improve every day. This group has not played as much basketball as other groups in the past so we just have to work harder and stay focused on getting better every time we step on the floor,” remarked Coach Mike Wentworth.
Leading the junior Bears in scoring on Tuesday night were Ava Hoy 10 points, 11 rebounds and Amelia Rodee seven points, eight rebounds. Rounding out the scoring were Camryn Sipher six points, Allysa Jacob, Courtney Peters, Phoebe Jaskowski, and Mattie Porter each scoring two points.
The JV girls play next in the annual Don Petty Christmas Tournament this weekend at the Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium. They will face off against St. Lawrence Central on Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
