The Canton boys varsity basketball team beat the Gouverneur Wildcats at home by a score of 75-29 on Monday night.
The Bears came out on fire building a large lead in the first quarter after beginning the game on fire from behind the arc. Canton brought this same energy to the second quarter, this time on the defensive end, holding the Wildcats to 17 points.
Canton came out of the half with no plans of slowing down. The Bears’ tempo allowed for a wide variety of players to get open shots. The high percentage shots were falling for the whole team, resulting in 12 out of the 13 players scoring.
Canton players filled up the stat sheet in a variety of ways. Andy Downs led with 17 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, and eight steals. Ashton Cloce followed with 14 points and a pair of assists. Sky Kennedy added 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Josh Kennedy supplied seven points. Chris Downs and Sam Fadden both contributed with four points and three rebounds.
Canton will host Salmon River on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
