JV Girls Basketball Drops Home Opener to Massena

The Canton JV Girls basketball team opened up at home on Thursday night against a tough Massena team.

The Raiders came into Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium with a very aggressive physical style of play and came away with a 48-35 win.

The Bears were paced by 6’2″ eighth grader Ava Hoy who had 15 points, 9 rebounds, and sophomore Amelia Rodee who tossed up 9 points, 12 rebounds.  Rodee also came away with the “Black Eye” toughness award for her hard work under the boards.

“We will get better, we just need to take better care of the basketball and get everyone to take pride in rebounding,” Coach Mike Wentworth said. “The fun part now is to see how much better we can get the next time we step on the court.”

To round out the scoring for the JV Bears, Camryn Sipher 6 points, Lindsey Fhiliatrault, Mattie Porter 2 Points and Courtney Peters 1 Point.

The Bears will be in home again next Thursday as they will face the Malone Huskies.  Game time 5:30
