The Canton Golden Bears and Ogdensburg Blue Devils kicked off the 2019-20 Section X wrestling schedule on Wednesday night with a 54-24 win by the Golden Bears.
With a strong showing of supporters from both teams rooting them on, both teams worked to knock off the rust in their first match of the season. With nine out of 11 contested matches ending by fall, both teams will likely be looking to fine tune a few things before returning to action in tournament events this weekend with the Bears traveling to the Andersen Tournament at Cicero North Syracuse and the Blue Devils traveling to the Nathan Wood Memorial in Saranac.
Highlights of the duel included Canton wins by fall from Hunter Blauvelt, Keenan LeBeouf-Davis, Kaleb Hamilton, Cohl McIntosh, Brock Francis and Matt Haycook in his return to the mat after a one year absence.
Ogdensburg picked up falls from Tristan Richardson, Blake Hall and Adam Calton.
Canton’s next league dual will be hosting the Gouverneur Wildcats next Wednesday, Dec. 11 with Ogdensburg hosting the Malone Huskies that same night.
