The Bears defeated OFA 5-0 on Monday night. Earlier in the season, the Bears were robbed a point when they tied Ogdensburg 0-0. That game was called off due to inclement weather. The Bears looked to get back what they should’ve already had, and they did just that.

After the long weekend, it took the Lady Bears time to get in their grove. They were only able to make the score 1-0 during the first half. The goal was scored nine minutes in, off a direct kick right outside the box. Haille Duvall lofted the ball up and over the defense and into the far corner. Early in the game, defender Bailee Bessete faced a minor injury, Emalyn Martin filled her position. The Lady Bears didn’t have a lot of competition against them though. They lead the shots 10-0, but were unable to put another one in.

Canton has proven to be a “second-half team” this season. Throughout the second half they seem to comeback, up their advantage, and drive home their desire to win. Canton did this against OFA by putting in four more goals and maintaining the shutout. Twenty minutes into the half, Jenni Haycook scored of a penalty kick. She lit a fire within the team.

Six minutes later Haycook served Cameron Sipher a ball. Sipher scored making it 3-0, and gained her first varsity point! The Bears did not let up, and hardly let the ball cross the midfield. With seven minutes left in the game, Chisholm gave a ball to Reed and she had a shot. The score became 4-0, and Ogdensburg realized Canton should have won the last time. Thirty seconds later, Molly Finnerty finished the scoring when she received the ball from Hannah Reed. Finnerty also got her first varsity goal. The Bears had a total of 19 shots on net and OFA had two. The final score was 5-0.

The Bears head to Salmon River on Thursday for their last regular season matchup. They are looking to get a win to tighten the standings. The section standings are available on North Country Sportsnet.
