The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team got back on their winning ways with a 3-0 win over OFA Wednesday night in Ogdensburg.
The Blue Devils opened the first set with an ace, but Canton came roaring back with strong serving. Katie Metcalf opened with 2 aces and followed up by serving for 7 more points to make it 10-2 Bears. Laurel Whittier took over serving for 7 points and 6 aces in a row. Canton was up 18-4, and Josie Gabriel helped to earn a point and Whittier had a kill. Paige Blackmer finished out serving for the Bears with 2 points for the win 25-7.
The second set opened with Metcalf serving 5 aces in a row. That was followed by serves from Gabriel, Emma Logan and Kyleigh Gollinger. Whittier helped maintain possession with two hits before Zoey Mattice took over serving for 5 points (1 ace) to bring the score to 17-8. Whittier then served for 3 points (2 aces) before Cecily Shipman subbed. Metcalf had a strong hit to regain possession and then she served 2 aces and the Bears went on to win the second set 25-11.
The third set opened with a back and forth scoring. Vanessa Mousaw served for 1 point to tie the score 3-3. Cheyenne Kinney then hit the ball over to tie the score at 5-5. Alexa Romano served for 1 point and then Maura Onyper served for 4 points to bring the Bears into the lead at 12-10. Elaina Locy served an ace followed by a point to lift the Bears to 16-11. Mousaw served 1 point, Locy had a nice dig, and Kinney served an ace to bring the score up to 22-16. Mousaw had a dig to regain possession and Locy served 2 points to close out the match with a 25-18 win.
The Bears play again on Tuesday, October 15 at Clifton-Fine beginning at 5 p.m.
