The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team rolled on to win seven in a row as they swept Brushton-Moira 25-6, 25-23, 25-18 Thursday night.
Katie Metcalf opened the first set with two aces, followed by Laurel Whittier serving three points for a 7-3 Bears lead. Strong serving from Kyleigh Gollinger solidified the Bears lead. Emma Logan finished out serving the first set with 11 points (3 aces) for a 25-6 win.
Brushton-Moira got off to a strong start in the second set with a 3-0 lead. Metcalf stepped up to serve six points (4 aces) to put the Bears up 7-4. After a little back and forth Autumn Bronson helped bring the Bears lead to 14-9 with strong serving and a nice dig. Brushton-Moira battled back with several aces as Canton struggled with serving and Brushton-Moira tied it up at 23 all. After an error Bronson served to win the set for the Bears 25-23.
The third set opened point for point until Logan and Lilly Borelli served to bring the Bears into a 12-6 lead. The Bears had some nice work at the net from Maura Onyper and Zoey Mattice to help increase their lead to 19-14. Logan served two aces and Vanessa Mousaw helped with a nice dig over the net. Onyper served for the win as the Bears took the sweep with a 25-18 win.
The Bears play again at home on Monday at 5 p.m. as part of Pink Week. Come support the Bears and help them raise money for The Lodge at Dreaming Tree Ranch.
