The Canton Boys JV soccer team suffered a hard fought defeat to the Massena Red Raiders 1-0 in a well fought game. A see-saw like game meant quality scoring chances for both teams.
The Bears kept their players on a quick rotation to keep their legs fresh and try to out run the talented Massena team. This strategy was quite apparently advantageous on the defensive front for the Bears as they seemed to keep up with the undefeated Raiders. Massena scored the only goal of the game at the 35 minute mark in the first half. A smooth shot was placed just over the Bears netminder for the goal.
Offensively it was not for lack of effort that the Bears were kept scoreless, rather from a powerful and aggressive Raider defense. At the half, Canton was pleased with their results, but like 18th century Europe, wanted more, specifically, in the form of a goal. The Bears put extra pressure up front in the second half but could not put one in the back of the net.
Coach Wentworth said that he was very proud of the Junior Bears as they played their best game of the year and the team showed great improvement from the first game between the two teams, which the Raiders won 6-0.
The Bears move to 6-3 on the season and travel to OFA on Saturday morning to face the Blue Devils on the turf.
