On Tuesday night, as the Malone Huskies and the Canton Bears faced off, the room came alive as both Canton and Malone fans exploded with excitement. The energy in the pool room was intense but also exhilarating. Canton had been training for this meet since day one, going into it they knew that all of their hard work to keep their streak alive could have been for nothing if their streak ended that night. As they dove into the pool, they knew they would have to work hard as ever to win the meet. They pulled off the win with a victory of 55-39. Canton took first in all events but two.

This meet was intense from beginning to end. Although Canton took first most of the time, because Malone often took second and third, they gained points from these finishes keeping the score very close throughout the meet.

Canton’s relay teams started the meet off strong as they took first in the 200 Medly Relay. Bella Jaskowski, Julia Domena, Carmen Mussen, and Emily Wentworth were the team that secured this win with a time of 2:03.04. The Bears also took fourth in this event. They took first during the 200 Freestyle Relay as well, Wentworth, Grace O’Neill, Jaskowski, Domena, and their 1:49.35 in this race are what landed them in first in this event. Not far behind was Emily Ames, Dharma Crabtree, Brooke Larrabee, and Maya Thomas contributing a third-place finish with their 2:03.89. The final race of the meet was the 400 Freestyle which Canton took second and third in. Larrabee, O’Neill, Olivia Logan, and Thomas took second with a time of 4:29.96 and Maddison Mitchell, Ames, Mussen, and Crabtree took third with their 4:40.96.

Canton placed first in all individual events except the 500 Freestyle where they took second and third. Junior Grace O’Neill contributed a first-place win at the beginning of the meet during the 200 Freestyle with her time of 2:14.39. She also took second in the 100 Backstroke with a 1:11.57. Bella Jaskowski, a senior, took first in both the 200 IM and the 100 Backstroke. Her time for the backstroke was a 1:06.60 and her victory time for the IM was a 2:36.30. Emily Wentworth (junior) and Julia Domena (senior) also each took first in two individual events. Wentworth took first in the 50 Freestyle with a 25.37 and also placed first in the 100 Freestyle with a 57.50. In the 100 Butterfly, Domena took first with a time of 1:04.10. She also stole the victory from the Huskies in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:17.19.

Brooke Larrabee (junior) also contributed a third and fourth-place finish in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. Lexi Stuntz, only in seventh grade, participated in the 100 Breaststroke, taking third. Skylar Sanderson, also in seventh grade, took second in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:26.71. Sanderson also finished in third during the 200 IM. Olivia Logan (sophomore) contributed a third place finish alongside Sanderson during the 500.

Canton was able to maintain their 99 meet win streak against Malone and are only one meet away from the big 100. However, the team they have to conquer next, St. Lawrence Central, was able to take on, and beat the Huskies, which means that Canton is going to have to fight and swim  just as hard, if not harder during their meet this Friday if they want to take home the 100th win. Come support the team this Friday in Saint Lawrence Central at 6 p.m. to cheer on the Bears.
