The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team continued to roll on Tuesday as they swept Tupper Lake 3-0 for their sixth consecutive win. The Bears won the first two sets 25-6 and 25-8, and then rallied to win the final set 25-23.
In the first set, the Bears led 10-5, and then stretched that advantage to 21-5 thanks to 11 straight serves and six aces from Katie Metcalf. Josie Gabriel also had a nice kill at the net during that run. Kyleigh Gollinger closed the set with a kill of her own.
Canton jumped out on the Lumberjacks 5-1 to start the second set thanks to a pair of kills from Metcalf. The lead was extended to 8-2 following two aces from Lilly Borrelli. The Bears were up 17-8 and then ended the set with an 8-0 run thanks to seven aces from Maura Onyper.
The final set went back and forth as the lead changed hands five times before Tupper Lake went ahead 22-16. Cecily Shipman served two times and had one ace as the Bears cut the lead down to 22-18. The Lumberjacks scored one more point to lead 23-18, and then Gollinger spurred the Bears to a 7-0 run delivering three aces to lead Canton to the win. Emma Logan added two aces in the final set.
The Bears are back in action on Thursday, October 3 when they hit the road to play at Brushton-Moira.
