Canton Tops Potsdam With 122-48 Win

Another win for the unstoppable Bears on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Going into their meet on Tuesday against Potsdam, with 96 wins under their belt, the Bears were happy to add yet another victory. Canton took on Potsdam in the Clarkson pool and came out with a victory of 122-48. 

Canton’s powerhouse relay teams contributed 1st place wins in all three relay events, along with two second place wins. Bella Jaskowski, Julia Domena, Grace O’Neill and Maya Thomas started the meet off strong with a time of 2:12.97 during the 200 Medley Relay, putting them in first place. Not far behind was Alexis Stuntz, Emily Ames, Carmen Mussen, Madison Mitchell, coming in to snatch second place in this event with a time of 2:29.33. Later on in the meet, Canton also took first in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Skylar Sanderson, Maya Thomas, Olivia Logan, and Brooke Larrabee were the mighty team that secured 1st in this event with a time of 2:05.39. Canton also ended the meet strong, the final event being the 400 Freestyle Relay. The Bears’ Brooke Larrabee, Bella Jaskowski, Grace O’Neill, and Julia Domena took first with a time of 4:06.28. Skylar Sanderson, Olivia Logan, Madison Mitchell, Dharma Crabtree took second in this event with a 4:47.16 as well. 

Potsdam was a particularly strong meet for the Bears, they may not have won every race, but they did contribute many second, third, and fourth place wins that impacted the score. In the 200 Freestyle, Larrabee came in second with a time of 2:26.93, Logan and Crabtree also contributed third and fourth place finishes in this race. Sanderson brought a second place win to the team with her 2:48.40 in the 200 IM, Stuntz won third in that event as well. In the 100 Butterfly Mussen took second with a 1:27.47. Maya Thomas contributed a third place win in this event along with one in the 50 Freestyle. In the 100 Freestyle, Jaskowski finished second with a time of 1:04.79, Logan and Mitchell just behind her for the third and fourth place wins. Larrabee took second in the 400 Freestyle with a 6:28.63, Crabtree also contributed a third place win in this event. Stuntz took 2nd in the  100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:30.43. Ames contributed a third place win in this event as well as a fourth place finish in the 50 Freestyle. Bailey also contributed a fourth place finish in the 100 Breaststroke.

Superstar swimmers Julia Domena and Grace O’Neill each placed first in two individual races this meet. Domena stole first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.93 and also took first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:10.18. O’Neill captured first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 27.0 and also in the 400 Freestyle with a 6:19.02. Jaskowski also contributed a first place victory in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:10.59.

Canton has continued to conquer teams one by one as they face off against each other each week and next they will be facing their biggest competition yet, the Malone Huskies. To support Canton, join the crowds at the meet on Tuesday, October 1 for the intense face-off between Canton and Malone. The meet is in Malone at 6:00.
