The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday as they downed Potsdam 2-1 for their fifth straight win.
The Bears scored the first three points of the first set and then opened a 14-2 lead thanks to six aces from Josie Gabriel and a pair of kills from Kyleigh Gollinger. The Sandstoners stopped the run with three straight points, including a pair of aces. Potsdam would pull within eight points, 20-12, a short time later, before Emma Logan served five straight times with two aces as Canton went on to win the first set 25-12.
In the second set, Canton held a slim 3-2 lead, and then Laurel Whittier served 14 consecutive points putting the Bears up 17-2. Gabriel added four more aces as the Bears took the second set 25-6.
In the third and final set, Potsdam jumped out to a 4-0 lead and stretched that to a 10-2 advantage. Canton battled back with a 7-4 run that closed the gap to 14-9. Autumn Bronson and Maura Onyper each had an ace, and Paige Blackmer had one point during that stretch. Potsdam would eventually win the set 25-12.
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, October 1 when they host Tupper Lake at 4 p.m.
