The Canton Boys JV Bears soccer team suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Salmon River by a score of 2-1.
The first half was somewhat balanced, with every action having an equal and opposite reaction. This was interrupted by Bradley Frank who tucked a quick shot passed the goalie on a pass from Owen Hall. That goal was the only real Bears highlight of the game. The remainder of the half was controlled by the Shamrocks, a common theme of the night.
The second half was much of the same story with Salmon River controlling the play. The one goal difference, like all good things, eventually came to an end. A well placed head ball off a corner found its way to the back of the net to tie the game up at ones.
Salmon added to their lead minutes later off an indirect kick in the box. The second goal marked a change in momentum, and the Bears finally saw the attacking half for the first time in the half.
The Bears refused to go down without a fight, but the best chances were saved and the remaining minutes weren’t long enough for Canton to score again.
The Bears did have an opportunity to tie the game late with a penalty shot but the shot clanged hard of the left post with a sigh of relief from the Salmon River fans.
The Bears move to 4-2 on the season and have a quick turnaround playing Thursday night under the lights at OFA. Game time is 6 p.m.
