Coming into the fifth game of the season without a win, the Lady Bears were hungry. They got their first win with a shutout against Malone.
The Bears looked like a new team on Monday night, and started off the scoring 15 minutes into the first half. Jenni Haycook assisted the ball to Etta Coburn who put it in the net. Not only was this Etta Coburn’s first varsity goal but it also set the tone for the game.
The bears held the ball in the offensive end for the majority of the game but in the chance it got by, Haille Duvall was always there to defend. She was a top performer for the Bears, with great composure and skill. With 5 minutes left in the half, the duo scored again. Coburn assisted the ball to Haycook to make the score 2-0.
The second half was more of the same as Canton dominated possession and overwhelmed the Huskies with crisp passes. The Bears struck one final time, 25 minutes in, with Quinn Woodward finding the back of the net for her first varsity goal. Coburn assisted that one, taking a part in all three goals. The Bears held it down in the back and played solid defense to stop the Huskies from scoring.
On Wednesday, the Bears are headed to Gouverneur for a tough match up with the Wildcats. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
