Thursday night, the Varsity Volleyball team beat the Malone Huskies 3-0. The Bears came out strong in the first set, and the match ended with the score 25-12, 25-20, 25-22. The Huskies played a strong defense yet the Bears were persistent in their game plan.
The team was able to serve consistently Thursday, and stay focused through long rallies. Malone dug many of Canton’s hits, yet the Bears persevered and continued to stay on the offensive charge. The Golden Bears were able to utilize the strengths of every player of their team, making many substitutions throughout the game.
Consistency and rhythm were keys to the team’s success against the Huskies. Thursday was the third match for Canton, and the Bears were beginning to find a rhythm in their energetic style of play. Hitter Gretchen Warner had eight kills and served seven aces for Canton. Hitters Jilly DiSalvo and Sydney Lorenc each added one block with six and five kills respectively. Setter Kelsea Whittier had 20 assists and hitter Grace Franklin had three kills and three digs.
Canton continues their season with a home match against the Ogdensburg Blue Devils on Monday September 16 at 6 p.m. Go Bears!
