Saturday the Canton swim team faced the Potsdam Sandstoners at the Potsdam pool. Although this match was only a scrimmage the Bears still swam hard to beat their personal best times and to beat the best swimmers in the section, which includes teams from Potsdam, Malone, and Gouverneur. Although they were swimming in the Potsdam pool, the Bears’ times were placed against all of the other times in the section.
The Bears took first and fourth in the section for the 200 Medley Relay. Bella Jaskowski, Julia Domena, Emily Wentworth, and Mia Mousaw worked together for a victory time of 2:03.84 which scored them first in the section and not far behind, Lexi Stuntz, Emily Ames, Skylar Sanderson, and Dharma Crabtree rallied for a time of 2:25.07 which put them in fourth for the section.
Grace O’Neill placed first in the section for the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:20.90. Brooke Larrabee also placed fourth for Canton, with a time of 2:31.86. Mousaw took fifth in this race with a time of 29.84. The Bears snagged first once again in the 100 Butterfly with Domena’s time of 1:09:78. Thomas also came in fourth in this event at a 1:28.11.
The first place slot in the 100 Freestyle was taken again by the unstoppable Emily Wentworth with her time of 58.42. Following her was Carmen Mussen, placing sixth with a time of 1:11.22. The third and fourth place slots in the 400 Freestyle were occupied by Bears swimmers as well. Olivia Logan placed third with a time of 6:37.13 and right behind her was Skylar Sanderson with a time of 6:39.67.
The next event was the 200 Freestyle Relay, which the Bears dominated as they took both second and third in the section. Canton’s powerhouse relay teams (Team 1: Wentworth, Mousaw, Thomas, and B. Larrabee Team 2: Domena, Jaskowski, Crabtree, and Ames) took second with a time of 1:58.77 and third with a time of 2:01.22.
O’Niell took first in the section during the 100 Backstroke with a 1:14.10 and Stuntz also placed fourth in this event at 1:16.99. In the 100 Breaststroke, Canton reserved both first and sixth place. Domena took first with a stunning time of 1:21.77 and Jaskowski took sixth with a time of 1:32.21. The Bears finished the meet by taking third and fourth in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The two relay teams (Team 1: O’Niell, Mousaw, Thomas, and Larrabee and Team 2: Logan, Sanderson, Stuntz, and Gabrielle Thomas) took third with a time of 4:27.88 and fourth with a time of 4:53.49.
Because this meet was a scrimmage and was not officially scored the Bears weren’t able to add another meet to their winning streak, currently sitting at 94. However, they used this time in the pool to continue to improve and gear up for their next meet in Massena on September 24.
