Girls Varsity Soccer Loses Close Game to Rival Potsdam

The Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team dropped a close game to Potsdam 3-2 in the pouring rain on Tuesday afternoon at Roger Dusharm Field Canton.

Hannah Reed started the scoring 13 minutes into the contest unassisted to get the Bears on the board. Sophia Janoyan evened the score with 2 minutes left in the half scoring on a corner kick from Katie Cowen for Potsdam.

Katie Chisholm scored first for the Bears in the second half on a nice cross from Hailee Duvall. Brittany Martin then tied the score for Potsdam with an unassisted tally 4 minutes later. Potsdam then scored the game winner on a penalty kick by Natalie Cowen with 12 minutes left in the contest.

Canton had good scoring chances and controlled most of the play in the second half. Esther Shipman played a great defensive game and Jenni Haycook and Etta Coburn combined for many good scoring chances. Abbi Dent collected 4 saves in the net and Potsdam’s Taylor Benda had 9 saves.

The Bears will be back in action on Friday as they visit the host Massena Red Raiders in a Central League matchup. The game begins at 4:30.
